About a year back, I had a knee replacement. Even though knee replacements have been around for a while, it’s still a big deal. Many knee replacements go well, but some folks complain of more pain.
Here’s my advice if you’re thinking about a knee replacement. If you’re in super serious, constant pain, then I say go for it. Knee replacements are pretty complicated. There’s a lot you have to do to make it all work, including physical therapy. But if you’re in pain, knee replacement is worth the effort. However, the whole process is really involved, a lot of work. If you only have mild pain, then I say hold off.
My knee replacement went really well. Yes, there was a lot of work, but the final result helped me a great deal. I have almost no pain in that knee and it works well.
One thing I was worried about was whether I could keep doing woodworking. I really love working with wood and building things. Woodworking requires a lot of standing while working with various equipment. I haven’t done any woodworking for about a year, but I’m pleased to say I can still work with the equipment and build stuff. I can’t stay out in the shop for 3–4 hours like I used to do. I can do about 2 hours at a time. That’s enough to build stuff, one step per shop visit.
Speaking of doing stuff, I can do almost everything I used to do before the surgery, which makes me happy. I really do love working with wood.
