Artificial Intelligence is all the rage these days. You see stories about it in all kinds of media, both printed and electronic. A.I. has replaced some job functions throughout the labor force. Some people see it as the enemy and others as a useful tool. I have used A.I. a bit in writing and I have mixed reviews of this technology.
I use an iMac running macOS. Tahoe, the most current version of macOS, offers “Apple Intelligence”. I think it uses ChatGPT, as it’s A.I. engine. I turned this on for a while and tested it. ChatGPT offers several ways to assist in writing text. It can proofread text and make corrections, especially with grammar. It can rewrite whole paragraphs or articles using different types of voices, like “Friendly” or “Business”.
I used “Apple Intelligence” to re-write a few of my blog articles. What I discovered was I did not like the way it wrote my articles. It just was not me. By no means are I a good writer. I just want to get some ideas and information across to other people. So, I stopped using “Apple Intelligence” to write for me. I did use the proofread feature for a while. But, I discovered my grammar, although not perfect, was pretty good all along. I decided that I really did not need “Apple Intelligence” at all, so I turned it off. It does take up quite a bit of space on your hard drive.
There is one other reason I decided to move away from A.I. After writing a few articles with it, I discovered it is quite “woke” and “politically correct”. I have done a couple of articles on the blog about guns and shooting. When I asked A.I. to re-write these articles, it stated something like it could not edit this type of content. Sorry folks, but at that point A.I. was history.
There may be other A.I. engines besides ChatGPT that are not politically correct. I am not sure which ones they are, if any. But, at this point, I just don’t need A.I. for anything. Perhaps things will change over time, but for now, I am just sticking with “Doug Intelligence”, be it ever so humble.
