I am certain your area of the country has elements that just fit where you live because of weather, population makeup and other factors. When I moved to Colorado, I knew I was moving to snow country. I was not prepared for that, but I learned what I needed to know quickly, especially regarding driving in the snow!
After being here a few months, I kept seeing two types of business’s. One was tire shops. This place has more tire shops than anywhere else in the country. Then, it dawned on me. It was the roads! The Winters here are brutal. Constant freeze-thaw cycles cause damage to many things, including roads. Sanding the roads to improve traction is great, but it does its damage as well. The roads in snow country are not the greatest. Which means they are hard on tires. Hence, lots of tire shops all over the place.
The other business I started to notice was roofing companies. Now, it took a little longer for me to understand why roofing companies, but I was educated by the weather. We can have bad hail here. It ruins roofs and breaks windows on buildings occasionally. As a result, there are tons of roofing companies in this area. They constantly harass you at your house after every storm. We did have our roof replaced after one hail storm. This was after we lived in our house for about 10 years. The hail damages cars as well.
I am sure there are things that are common to your area of the country, but that is what it is like out here in Colorado snow country.
