Since my very beginning of running computers, I used some type of banking software. In the old days, the banking Apps were fairly basic, but still useful. Desktop Banking software has become very sophisticated.

I have used several banking software programs over the years including Moneydance, Quicken, and Banktivity I have tested a few others as well. There are many banking Apps available in macOS today, but I think Quicken is still the most popular.

When I returned to using macOS, I started using Quicken again. It is not available on Linux OS. While on Linux, I used Moneydance, which is an excellent program. After using Quicken for a few months, it had a major paid for upgrade. That is when the problems started.

I tried to pay for the upgrade online unsuccessfully. Their system was a mess, it just did not work well. To remedy this, they say to call a number to do the upgrade. When I called the number, I absolutely could not understand the person on the line. English was not their native language, for sure. After two tries without being able to understand the Quicken tech person, I gave up. I just don’t have the time or patience to deal with that type of support anymore.

I have used the Banktivity App previously and I liked it. The price for Banktivity was the same as the Quicken upgrade, so I went with Banktivity. All was well after moving my files over and doing a little adjusting. The Banktivity App is quite sophisticated. I do not come close to using the full capabilities of the App.

The bottomline is this. If software companies make it difficult to upgrade and maintain their App, then just move to another equivalent App and save yourself the grief.
