If you are fed up with Windows OS spying on you, then you might consider installing and running the Linux OS. Linux has been around for about 30 years. The recent versions of Linux Desktop are very mature and professional. They look as good as a Mac or Windows desktop. The best part is, Linux is very secure. It does not spy on you in any way. There is no data collection in Linux OS.

You do not have to give up your current computer workflow to run Linux. Just keep running your current Windows or macOS installation alongside the Linux operating system. Here are several ways to do that.

  1. Install a Linux Distro on an old computer (probably an old laptop). That is a computer running older versions of Windows or macOS. Yes, you can install Linux OS on a Mac effortlessly. I have done it many times. We all have an old machine around the house somewhere. You can get older computers on eBay as well for very cheap.
  2. Install Linux on a new computer. New computers can be expensive. The way around the expense is to buy a Mini PC from someplace like Amazon. You can get one for around $200. These are not the most powerful machines, but they run Linux really well. Linux is a much faster, more responsive operating system that works well on Mini PC’s.
  3. If money is no object, you can buy a new computer with Linux already installed. There are several companies that sell machines with Linux installed like Dell, System 76, Tuxedo Computers and others. Just do a little searching on their website to find their Linux OS computers.

If you aren’t concerned about losing the data on your main computer, you can install Linux OS on it. Just back up your information first so you can transfer it later. But, a safer and almost easier way is to try Linux OS for a while on an older computer you have lying around. You can test the Apps you need for your workflow and see if the Linux ecosystem works for you.

Whatever way you go, moving to Linux OS is definitely worth considering. The various Distros work well. Linux is much more secure and private than either Windows or macOS.
