Sometimes I think email is the bane of people’s existence. You can’t live with it, but you cannot live without it. I get quite a bit of email each day. Not as much as someone in a business, but I have several interests and get email involving all of them.

There really are two considerations about email. First is how we manage our email workflow, which involves the type of email App we use. Many people just use the default email App for their operating system. For macOS, that is the Apple Mail App. For Windows OS, it might be Outlook. In Linux OS, it is probably Thunderbird. Along these lines, I have decided to give the Hey Mail system another try. Their email system is good. We will see how that goes.

The second consideration about email is privacy. Here is how email privacy plays out. If you use an email system provided by big tech like Yahoo or Google, you pay for that email with your information. They collect your data and sell it to data brokers who use it for advertising and other things.

If you pay for your email with a service like Fastmail or Hey Mail, you are paying for privacy. These systems are good at protecting your privacy. They do not sell your information to others. These days, I prefer to pay for more privacy. Over the last few years I have used Fastmail and am now considering going back to Hey Mail. The privacy capabilities of Hey Mail are excellent.

The choice is yours. Most people will just continue to use a big tech email address. However, more people are becoming privacy conscious these days, which means more people will pay for that privacy by using a pay-for service.
