If you do not believe things are bad in our country today, you are not paying attention. All the civil unrest is designed to destabilize our communities and society. That is pretty obvious.
As a 30-year police officer (retired) it is with great dismay and disgust to see many big-city police departments standing down and doing nothing about these riots. As an aside, I suggest you avoid all major cities in the United States. Pretty much all of them are a mess. It just is not safe there.
This brings me to the title of this blog post, “Watch Your Six!”. Even if you live in a decent area, it is almost a necessity to do a concealed carry of a handgun. The cops are not going to get there on time. At least initially, you are on your own if some type of incident develops. I am not saying you should be confrontational. If you can get out of the problem without violence, do so. But, if you have no other choice, then you need to make sure you get home to your family. Or, perhaps you might be protecting your family.
There is no replacement for possessing and knowing how to use a handgun. Yes, being aware of your surroundings is helpful. Acting wisely is also a plus. But, the bottom line is protecting you and yours against evil.
This is just an aside, but as a Christian, I believe all of the above is set in the framework of God’s protection. I prayed everyday I went to work for God’s protection of myself and fellow officers. I still pray every day for God’s protection of me, my wife, grandkids and extended family. The “real” bottomline is God, but humanly speaking, He does expect us to use our brains and be as prepared as we are able.
