With all the bad stuff going down with church shootings these days, I thought I would say a few words about church security. My brother Larry was talking to me about church security today, which prompted this article.

I actually worked church security a couple of times over the years. A person who works church security is referred to as a “sheepdog”. You are there to protect and take care of the sheep, Christians, God’s people.

Many churches today have some type of church security detail. If they don’t, then they are being very foolish. Bad guys and crazies are out there ready to do damage to church going people and others as well, of course.

If you attend church, the first thing you can do is have a concealed carry pistol on your person! That may not be a solution for a large church, but you may be able to keep some bad guy away from you and your family. The second thing you can do is check into whether your church has a security team. Some Christian people think that a security team is not needed, that God will protect them. Well, I was a Police Officer for 30 years. I prayed that God would protect me and my fellow officers. But, I carried a Sig Sauer pistol and had a 12 gauge shotgun available. Occasionally, God protects directly, miraculously, but usually, He uses means to protect us. He encourages “US” to use the means available to us. Yes, a weapon is necessary, but good situational awareness and common sense also.

These are dangerous times. There are many attacks on churches, but you would never know it because they typically do not put any of that on the news. Most news people are anti-gun and anti-religion. We cannot be naive about this, just have to be prepared for bad stuff and use good sense in our activities.

Speaking of being prepared, the first day we were taking a look at our current church, they were encouraging people to get their CCW (concealed carry) permit in classes that they offered. I knew I liked that church right off!!
