Battery Operated Equipment

Battery Operated Equipment

As previously mentioned, we have ¾ of an acre to take care of at home. I cannot name the times that I have been frustrated using gas powered yard equipment. It won’t start, or it just needs to have the carburetor rebuilt. It is always something.

Over the last few years, I have gradually switched my yard equipment over to battery operated machines. I started using the EGO line which is really great. They have battery operated equipment for just about everything. I have a blower, hedge trimmer, weed eater, chain saw, pressure washer and small mower from EGO. They are all nicely designed pieces of equipment and so easy to use compared to gas based machines. Admittedly, battery yard equipment is a little pricey, but worth it for ease of use and time saving.

There are two caveats here. First, a professional yard maintenance company would not use battery operated equipment. They would have to have 10 batteries per machine. They would still need to use gas operated, no way around it. Second, there are other manufacturers that make battery operated stuff, I just prefer EGO.

I have five EGO products that all use the same battery system. I share two batteries between them because I seldom have to use any of them on the same job. I can recharge the battery for the next piece of equipment that I will need.1 The mower takes a larger battery, but all the other equipment use the same battery system.

Even though battery equipment is pricey, you can switch your stuff over. Just do it one piece at a time. It may take a couple of years, but by using the gradual method it is more affordable.
