Blog Spam Protection

Blog Spam Protection

I have used WordPress for different blogs for years. This blog is hosted using WordPress as well. It is the quintessential blogging platform. There are several other systems to use for blogging, but WordPress is still the big daddy on the block.

If you use a blogging service like Blogger, then most of your security needs are taken care of automatically. It is not as versatile a platform as WordPress, but it does work for some people.

However, if you do a WordPress blog, you need to install some type of anti spam plugin or system. If you do not, you will get tons of “Comment” spam in your feed. I have several WordPress blogs and they all use a plugin service called CleanTalk. It does cost money, but it is worth every dime for the peace of mind of its spam removal capabilities.

You can use CleanTalk on 5 blogs with a years subscription to their service. Currently, I run 3 WordPress blogs and use CleanTalk on all of them. It works like a charm. It provides a monthly spam report showing some of the spam stuff they block.

Unfortunately, if you operate a blog online, you just have to have spam blocking capability. If you do not, the spam will bury you and render your blog almost useless. If you are thinking about doing a blog, then I highly recommend WordPress. Most ISP’s (Internet Service Providers) have scripts that will setup the WordPress installation for you. There is a learning curve to using WordPress, but once you are up to speed, you will never really forget how stuff works.
