It seems like there are all kinds of wackos everywhere these days. It kind of pays to be a little paranoid in what we do and where we go. Obviously, some areas of the country are worse than others, but a little situational awareness can go a long way.

I really do not believe we should live a life totally based on fear. However, if does pay to know when to “duck”. The Creator does not expect us to be fools, it is OK to avoid obvious dangers. However, our daily lives should generally be based on freedom and love for others.

With this in mind, I think it is a good idea to have a concealed carry firearms permit. What! How is that loving. Well, it really can be loving if you need to protect yourself, family members or others that are defenseless. There are real bad guys out there that think nothing of hurting you.

If you live in a “Constitutional Carry” state, then you are really good to go. If not, then you should work with your Sheriff’s Department to get the permit. You don’t have to do a concealed carry of a firearm all the time, but it might be a good idea at certain activities or in certain more dangerous areas of your community.

If you do not feel comfortable carrying a handgun, then there are some “less lethal” choices. Pepper Spray can be effective. It is light weight and easy to conceal. Some type of taser device might work as well. Something is better than nothing. But, nothing is more effective than a handgun.

For me, I do a concealed carry almost all the time. I am just used to doing that as a former law enforcement officer. Make no mistake, a concealed carry is not cool or fun. Guns are heavy, not comfortable at all. But, it might be a good idea to have one available in these troubled times.
