Woodworking Continues

Woodworking Continues

About one year ago I had a knee replacement. Even though knee replacements have been around for quite a while, it still is quite a big deal. Many knee replacements come out fine, but some folks complain of more pain.

As an aside, here is my advice if you are thinking about a knee replacement. If you are in very serious, constant pain, then I say go for it. Knee replacements are quite complicated. There is a lot that you have to do to make it all work including physical therapy. But, if you are in pain, knee replacement is worth the effort. However, the whole process is really involved, a lot of work. If you only have mild pain, then I say hold off.

My knee replacement went very well. Yes, there was a lot of work, but the final result helped me a great deal. I have almost no pain in that knee and it works well.

One concern for me was whether I would be able to continue doing woodworking. I really love working with wood and building things. Woodworking requires a great deal of standing while working with various equipment. I have not done any woodworking for about one year, but I am happy to say I can still work with the equipment and build stuff. I cannot stay out in the shop for 3-4 hours like I used to do. I can do about 2 hours at a time. That is enough to build stuff, one step per shop visit.

Speaking of doing stuff, I can do almost everything I used to do before the surgery which makes me very happy. I really do love working with wood.
