I go back and forth between the Ulysses writing App and iA Writer. They are both very sophisticated Apps for any type of writing. The Dougman blog does not demand powerful writing capabilities, but it is nice that these Apps both have them if needed.
I think iA Writer is a little more sophisticated in checking writing styles. It might be a little better in the “Focused Writing” area as well. However, Ulysses is not far behind in these areas and handles them quite well.
The big difference between the two Apps is publishing. Unfortunately, iA Writer requires that you log in to your WordPress account to complete the publication of your articles. This is very cumbersome and a very involved added step to article completion.
Ulysses can publish directly to WordPress. It presents a pre-publish window where you can add all the information required for the article, including the “featured image”. Furthermore, you can update an article directly within the Ulysses App. IA Writer cannot do this. If you update an article in iA Writer, it creates a whole new article when you publish. You have to go online and delete the original article. Not a very intuitive process.
For now, I will remain on Ulysses writing App. Its features are more than adequate for my needs. It’s publishing features move it over the top.
