For my blogging needs I go back and forth between the MarsEdit App and Ulysses. The Ulysses App is a much nicer writing environment, but primarily a writing App. MarsEdit is a dedicated blogging App. Because of that, it has more powerful blogging features than Ulysses. Both Apps are well supported by their developers.

One thing I discovered is the AI “Writing Tools” do not work in MarsEdit. Frankly, I don’t really need the AI tools, but they are still fun to use. You can bring up the AI Writing Tools in MarsEdit, but you cannot replace your current text with the suggested text. The replace function does not work yet. I am sure this will be fixed in future updates to the App, but for now it is a non-starter.

At this point, I have not decided whether I want to turn off AI features on my Mac or not. It does add some nice editing tools to the Photos App, but I really don’t need it for writing. The dougman blog is very informal. I am not a great writer, but I can convey a thought well enough.

I am sure I will be tempted to go back to Ulysses at some point, but for now I am staying with MarsEdit for my blogging needs. It is very sophisticated and works well with the WordPress platform.
