I started using the Hey email system a few months ago. I get a fair amount of email. I need a good email workflow to handle it. As a result, I try different email Apps and systems. I thought the Hey system could work for me, but it does not.

Hey email is a closed system. You cannot install Hey email in another App. They have their App which works with their system. Make no mistake, it is a good email system, but it just does not work for me. One of the main reasons is folders.

Hey has a system where you categorize things by putting them into “collections”. They do not use folders. That was a major dealbreaker. If I am using a traditional email App, I use folders for all kinds of stuff. I use rules that put various emails into those folders. I missed that functionality in Hey email.

I like to be able to install my various email accounts into different email Apps to test them. You cannot do that in Hey email. Their system is closed. You have to use their App. To be fair, their App works well. They even have a Linux version, which is to their credit. But, I need an open email system so I can place my email workflow where I wish.

It took me a few months to get all my accounts over to the Hey email address. I am in the process of moving it all back over to my original email. A bit of a time-consuming experiment, but still a learning experience.

The Hey email system does work for some people. If you are interested, they have a 30-day trial period. Check it out on their website.
