I listen to a few podcasts of people I think are knowledgeable about life and things going on in the world. I do not obsess over it, but I think it is important to at least have an idea of what is going on in my community, country, and the world at large.

The problem with much of the Alternative Media is that it is fear-based. The main message for many of them is fear of something that drives the story of the day. Many people seem to feed on this for whatever reason. They just get locked in and need their daily dose of fear porn.

Don’t misunderstand me, Alternative Media is the future of information. The Main Stream media is dead. People no longer trust them and are turning to alternative sources for information. That is good, but we need to avoid getting sucked into a total fear-based worldview.

Here is what I try to do. I listen to a few podcasts that I trust. Not every day, but a few times a week. I try to discern any credible information I can get without thinking this is the end of the world.

There is one caution here. You do need to know when to duck! God does not expect us to be fools. Fear, on a temporary basis, can be useful. If an immediate situation is dangerous, then take the necessary steps to get through it safely and move on with life.

There is one more observation I would like to make about Alternative Media. Many podcasters pay lip service to God, then proceed with their information as if He does not really exist and is not a Sovereign being. He is the God of fire insurance, but not the God of this world in our daily lives. This is sad, but it does not mean that we have to think like that. Yes, God is here working in this world, we have responsibilities to serve Him, He promises to bless our hard work for His glory.
