The table is completed, finally. Currently, I am applying the finish. You can stain wood projects, but I do not use stain on Cherry hardwood. Cherry is such an elegant and beautiful wood, you really don’t need a stain. I seal this type of furniture with wipe-on polyurethane. Here is what I use.

There are other kinds of finish you can apply, but I like wipe-on poly. It is easy to apply several coats. It has self leveling properties that make the final finish smooth and nice to look at.
Speaking of numerous coats, today I applied the first coat to the table. It does not look great. You have to burnish the first coat lightly with 400 grit sandpaper to make the second coat adhere properly. In a couple of days I will apply the second coat and possibly a third. I may finish the table with paste wax, but I am not sure about that yet.
Anyway, the project is finally coming to an end. I am not sure what other woodworking projects I will do, if any at all. Just have to see how that goes.
