This time of year we start the veggie garden going. We got some garden type soil mix for our raised beds a couple of weeks ago. You have to turn that in with a pitchfork. The raised beds need a bit of renewal every year to get the soil up to speed.

I planted one row of Spinach in one of the raised beds. We love Spinach salads. Spinach is a cold weather crop. I also planted one row of mixed lettuce. In a couple of weeks, I will plant another row of Spinach to time the harvesting over a period of weeks.

It is not warm enough to start tomatoes. Some folks around here start tomatoes inside this time of year, but we are going to wait and plant them outside. The growing season here is very short, so sometimes we do not get many tomatoes, but home-grown tomatoes are so good we always try each year.

Spring and summer bring lots of hard work. There is spraying weeds, mowing and other chores. But, I consider working in the veggie garden to be fun. I guess I would say it is fun work.
