Our house is situated on ¾ of an acre of land. It is a neighborhood with larger lots which is great. We all have a little more breathing room. My wife is a horticultural person. After 25 years in this spot, we have several trees, shrubs and flowers. The problem is, how to maintain this much property when you get older.
I will be 80 years old in a few weeks. I do a lot of weeding, mowing and general plant maintenance. My wife does a lot with flowers and shrubs. We have a nice looking yard which is beautiful during the summer months.
However, the work to maintain this property never changes. The things the lawn needs are the same each year. The rest of the property is the same. So far, we can still maintain our yard. But, we just do it more slowly. I used to be able to mow and weed eat the backyard in one day. Now, I do it in two days. But, the work still gets done which is all that matters.
I suppose when we get even older, we might need to hire some people to do some of the more difficult work. We will just have to see how that goes. For now, we still enjoy having this extra space around us. We still are able to enjoy our yard.
